DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES
Birth - 12-14 Days ::
Weight: 0.5 - 1 lb
Blind, Deaf, Little/No sense of smell, darkly furred
2 Weeks (20-24 Days) ::
Weight: 3.5 lbs
11-15 days, eyes open and are usually blue
3 Weeks ::
Weight: 4-5 lbs
Ears open and hearing begins around 20 days. Pups may emerge from den and may consume small amounts of regurgitated meat from adults. Pups learn to growl, walk, chew, and stand at this age.
4 Weeks/1 Month ::
Weight: 5-6 lbs
Adult fur begins to grow and head and paws may become disproportionately larger than the body. Play and dominance fighting may begin and pups may leave den for an extended period of time.
5 Weeks ::
Weight: 9-10 lbs
Gradual weaning begins and pups can now be up to one mile from den accompanied by an adult.
8 Weeks/2 Months ::
Weight: 15-22 lbs
Leave den and move to rendezvous site. Pups are now fully weaned and can feed on meat provided by adults. They begin to grow adult fur and their eyes may change color.
12 Weeks/3 Months ::
Weight: 20-30 lbs
Pups can accompany adults on hunting trips and can return to rendezvous site on their own.
16-24 Weeks/4-6 Months ::
Weight: 28-70 lbs
Adult teeth grow in as well as winter coat.
6 Months ::
Weight: 30-70 lbs
Take part in hunting with adults and are nearly indistinguishable from adults at this point.
7 Months ::
Weight: 30-80 lbs
Pups begin to travel with the pack.
8 Months ::
Weight: 40-80 lbs
Pups are able to hunt on their own.
1 Year ::
Weight: 80-100 lbs
Pups are now fully grown though weight may fluctuate.
22 Months/1 Year and 10 Months ::
Weight: ?
Pups are now able to mate and have pups of their own.
