Whisper reacted half a second that felt like an eternity after the alpha surged forward, every muscle prepared for this one moment in time when raw power allowed her to leap forward filled with excitement. Her blood pumped adrenaline to her and she felt the wildness consuming her as she chased freely. She was on the left side of the deer and was very near it, but not close enough. The rest had scattered and the leaping wolves among the did nothing to quiet the panic. Whisper scented the air, fear from the deer, excitement from Kipxin, an emotion she couldn't place from Kole, but no Azreal. Whisper turned her attention to the hunt, the blood roaring in her ears. The run exhilarated her and she did little to hide it, her eyes glowing and filled with a predatory gleam as she began the patient game to run her quarry to the ground. Whisper felt the present beat more clearly than most times, each movement accentuated and different with the same pounding rhythm that all followed. In a millennium old song. She was beginning to love the hunt, as much as exploring and sating her curiosity. wolves mentioned: Kipxin, Kole, Azreal wolves addressed: none notes: ok sorry if this was a copy of Kipxin's post, but I have never been on a group hunt before so I might need some pointers.

Kole's eyes fell upon the deer that Kipxin faced towards. He lowered his ears, kneading the snowy dirt with his paws. He quickly glanced at Kip but upon noticing that none of her attention was going towards him at this moment he hurriedly faced the prey once more. He studied the grazing animal with hunger, just imagining the feeling of its fresh meat between his teeth. Only now did he feel the hunger within him. The butterflies that the alpha placed in his stomach seemed to keep that hunger away. He heard the small rumble in her throat and tensed his body in anticipation to spring forward. In a flash of grey the alpha was already a few paces ahead, letting out a bark. Kole just about tripped over himself as he took off after her, catching up with a burst of adrenaline. His limbs flew beneath him as he ran alongside the alpha getting closer and closer to the bounding deer. He mentally noted the animals kicking hoofs, making sure to stay clear of them. Kole veered to the left in an attempt to keep the deer from turning in that direction. He pushed his body to the limit to get up alongside the deer's flank. Kole wasn't so much of a speed runner, he was much better suited for longer chases, but they had to make a catch soon, the snow was now pelting down and stinging his nose and eyes. Kole blinked attempting to clear his vision from the chilly attack, but only succeeded in distracting himself. He pushed harder to stay beside the deer who was now heaving and snorting. Steam flew from the prey's nostrils as it battled to stay out of reach.

Kipxin surged towards the deer whose hooves kicked up tsunamis of snow as its feeble legs galloped before her. On her right she could feel Kole's presence, his face now in her peripheral and on her right she could see Whisper, bounding towards the deer's left side.
Kipxin, empowered by hunting with her pack, had a surge of adrenaline that allowed her to narrow in on her target. Her blood pumped in her ears and her mind went blank - she was all instinct now.
With a snarl Kipxin, in two large bounds, reached the flank of the deer - its hooves blanketing her in a powder of snow that pelted her face. Her mouth salivating and her teeth bared, she leaped towards the deer, front paws outstretched.
Her claws dug deep into the deer's hind-right leg, and using the inertia of her leap and her current grip on the deer's flesh, she pulled herself in and sunk her teeth into it's muscle.
The deer's leg gave out and it stumbled. Kipxin, relishing in the sudden warmth that filled her mouth, was reluctant to let go, but she knew she must.
Kole and Whisper would have to take the deer down while she composed herself once more. Though the deer was slower now, it would be thrashing wildly - running for its life.

Whisper felt her bounds grow increasingly strained as snow barred her way to the prey she chased on after. The snow stung at her eyes and for a moment she wondered about Azreal, trying to keep her concentration on the blurring world ahead of her. She felt her heart pounding and the snow shook from her thin form as she bounded across the snow, shorter than before. The deer went so slowly it was tantalizing only spurring the predatory feeling growing with her. Whisper let loose a bark of excitement that made a sudden wave of panic overcome the deer as Kipxin's had. Whisper felt close, but the deer was still paces ahead, struggling against the accumulating snow. Whisper scented the air and the oncoming storm gave a new renewed importance to her actions. The storm was almost upon them, she allowed her legs to move almost out of habit as she felt worry for Bain and Azreal. If either one of them got hurt....The pack needed a healer, and their beta now that Kole might become Alpha Male, and Whisper felt herself wanting to go and track down Azreal, just to make sure. She shook her head of the thoughts as snow rippled free from her thing pelt, the cold blasting though it making her shiver. Whisper glanced at Kipxin and narrowed the distance between them slightly as Kole bounded behind, his black coat standing out vividly against the white. The kill was soon and Whisper's blood tingled at the thought as she had to prevent herself from imagining ripping the flesh of the deer, and succumbing to the raw instinct that may take over. In a single moment the fatal mistake was made, the deer stumbled over thin air and Kipxin lunged sinking her teeth into the back leg, crippling the prey. The deer thrashed wildly forcing Kipxin to loose her grip. Energy coursed through her as the deer rose on three legs but wobbled and couldn't run. Whisper bounded over with new energy and sunk her teeth into the leg, a faint snap and a muscle had been injured. Blood splattered across the snow, the sight and scent making Whisper almost crazy. The deer lay still for a moment and Whisper hesitated. Whisper glanced at Kipxin and then saw Kole still bounding in the snow. Now what? The deer went more paces with Whisper catching her breath before beginning to bound over to the new spot. |

Kipxin was panting now, trying to pull air through the thick hot blood that clogged her airways. She licked her maw, enjoying the contrast of the cold air against the warmth of the new blood that spattered her face.
Bounding forwards once more, the blood empowered her - adrenaline pumping once more. She watched as Whisper bounded and took advantage of the injury she had just inflicted moments ago. She praised the young red wolf in her mind.
The kill was theirs now, and with the new spurt of energy that overtook her system, Kipxin caught up with Kole and Whisper once more.
The deer had fallen, its leg snapped by Whisper's strong jaws. In three huge leaps, Kipxin had bounded over the deer's temporarily fallen form and lunged for it's throat.
The deer called out, and as Kipxin sunk her teeth into its throat, it squeaked and made no further sound. Her tongue sliding along the fresh wound, she welcomed the flow of pulsing blood that now assaulted her maw.
The alpha felt the life slip from the deer's form as she twisted her head and pulled the meat from her prey's carcass.
Kipxin, satisfied, looked at the others.
"Time to eat!"

(ok sorry! I'll ask if I want to copy some of your work again.) Whisper felt the bone snap under the pressure she exerted, and gripped slightly tighter before jumping back quickly as Kipxin bounded forward and lunged at the the throat, blood spattering across the alpha's muzzle as the major vein was broken through. The deer let loose a high pitched sound before sound came from it no more. Whisper stood back as the blood flowed out onto the snow. Kipxin wretched a bite of flesh from the deer and in the moment of victory shouted "time to eat." Whisper scented the air and was met with a cold gust of brisk air. Her fur bristled at the oncoming storm. She suddenly ripped the carcass' flesh and tasted blood warm and sweet. Whisper gorged slightly before stopping to look at the surrounding area. She wasn't sure where the den was, but it wasn't close enough to get to before the storm. She looked from Kole to Kipxin wondering for the hundredth time where Azreal was. Whisper paused and hesitated before starting "Kipxin, I don't think we will make it back to the den on time, and Bain and Azreal are still missing." Whisper trailed off, she didn't want to be the one to come up with the problems, but also didn't want to disrespect Kipxin. She offered tentatively "maybe we should find shelter here, if we are close enough we can drag the carcass along. Should one of us go and look for Bain and Azreal?" Whisper hesitated, it was the best idea she could come up with and hoped that someone else came up with a better one. She wasn't a great believer in just letting things happen. There was always a way to manipulate the situation. She wasn't so sure she could do that with this situation though, and she defiantly couldn't stop the blizzard that would rain down on them. Whisper glanced back at the forest where she had left Azreal and wondered where he was. He would regret skipping out on a meal. |

(Dern I missed the action! I'm gunna throw a little attack from Kole in there.)
Kole veered his eyesight away from the beast that galloped and snorted beside him towards Kip as she snarled. He watched her, mesmerized, as she leaped up latching onto the deer's right leg. For a moment the movement of his legs disappeared from his mind. His eyes shined as he watched her, all other thoughts were gone. The deer stumbled and Kole joined in on the barrage of attacks when Whisper arrived, wanting to do his part to take down the prey. Kipxin returned as Kole locked his jaws on the upper front leg of the deer assisting in dragging it to the snowy ground. The metallic sting of the blood soothed his dry tongue as he slowly loosened his grip on the leg. He pulled away to grin at Kip and Whisper, licking his chops clean. His expression quickly turned serious at Whisper's words. He glanced towards Kipxin, snow now settling in thick clumps on his dark fur. A small shiver traveled down his back from facing the thought of no den. Kole stayed silent for a few seconds contemplating the situation. The fresh snowfall wouldn't allow easy tracking of the others, and the thought of splitting up didn't quite sit right. "It's getting colder." He spoke firmly. "The snow will just get thicker. If we split up now we may not find each other again." He moved his gaze from Whisper to Kip, hoping she saw sense in his words. The guard hairs on his back rose from the unease he felt.

Whisper watched as Kole sobered and waited for Kipxin's response anxiously. Whisper paused, Kole was right, but it didn't sit well with her, leaving a blind wolf and Azreal to fend for themselves in a storm. She knew Azreal was capable but she wanted to make sure he was okay, and Bain. Whisper internally groaned as her face remained a blank mask, he was probably lost and wandering around, maybe he had found shelter sensing the impending storm, but. Whisper paused she didn't want to go against Kole, especially when his words made sense. Whisper felt the snow settle on her back and a small shiver went up her spine as her thing coat did little to protect her from the biting chill. Whisper wondered if she could go off alone and frowned that would be abandoning them and wouldn't be right either. She didn't like how weak caring for others made her, if she were on her own she would probably already be safe in shelter and not have to worry about them. Why was she worrying about them? Whisper didn't take time to puzzle over this, there would be plenty of time to think when she was waiting the storm out, she could either do what Kole said or respectfully make sure that they searched for Azreal and Bain. Whisper hesitated for only a moment "Maybe we could alert them when we find a place to bed down? I think that if we howled they would hear and if they have time find their way. I'm only concerned about Bain but he probably sensed it ahead of me and is already safe and sound." Whisper took a deep breath. She scented the crisp air as it hurtled past her, the scents were all blurred by the wind and faint from the snow, she thought she scented Azreal, but that was from their previous attempt. She couldn't pick up a trace of Bain. Whisper ripped into the depleting carcass, from the wolves gorging there was only some of the legs left and most of the hindquarters. It would be easy to drag to a temporary den. Whatever call Kipxin was going to make though she had to make it fast. Whisper longed to check the perimeter one last time to make sure there were no wolves who would be caught in the storm or intruders taking advantage of the fact that the pack was preoccupied to settle on Mercy territory. She decided against that, if there were intruders then they would be caught after the storm and no wolf deserved to be turned out in a blizzard like this was going to be. Again her attention turned to other matters and the wind picked up ruffling her pelt and making her shiver. She needed to get out of this freeze, or get moving. Whisper scented the air, hoping Azreal would be safe. |

Kipxin let out a growl as Whisper went in for a bite of meat, her head not fully out of instinct-mode. Blood still pounding in her ears, she flattened her ears, and bared her teeth - snarling and licking the front of her teeth.
She leaped for the stomach of the deer and tore it open in one smooth motion, it's intestines falling pathetically onto the snow in front of her. The scent drove her mad and she buried her face in it, retreating from the new cavity she created only when her mouth was filled with meat.
As she chewed, her pupils dilated back to their normal state, returning back to her senses. She looked towards Whisper, he had just spoken, and looked towards Kole for verification.
Chewing as she listened, she swallowed and cleaned her teeth with her tongue before responding to Kole's words.
"I agree,"
She said calmly, breaking the eye-contact she had with Kole and turning to meet Whisper's instead.
"We can't risk splitting up now and we don't have enough time to dig out dens here. We can't take those chances, and I won't allow it. You are all my family and I will make sure each one of you are safe."
She spoke in a serious tone. She deeply cared for every member of her pack and wanted no harm to come upon them.
It was then she noticed the snow. The wind had kicked up and snow was almost falling in blinding sheets. She could barely see Whisper standing in front of her. She turned to face Kole, a slight smirk on her face.
"Have some dinner, the both of you, and let's drag the rest back to the den site. Between the three of us we should be able to take it back quickly as long as we hurry. We'll howl for the others once we reach the den site."

Whisper shied away from the deer as the alpha snarled. She didn't take it personally, but it simply reminded her of the pack hierarchy, her eyes narrowed and made her angry. She quelled the feeling. Kole responded to her. Whisper watched Kipxin eat her fill before the alpha chose to respond, she understood Kipxin's need to be sensible, but disagreed with her, mainly worried about the others. She had to remind herself to think sensibly, safety would always come first, but she felt her values changing as she came in contact with the pack more and more. It was becoming, to keep them safe, to not hurt his feelings, to respect her, it made her feel weak like she needed another's approval which made her internally frown slightly. Whisper hated the vulnerable position which she knew was inevitable when she had begun caring for these wolves. Whisper saw the alpha's gaze fix on hers and politely averted hers, she had been staring. Kipxin continued and Whisper had to stop from smiling, it was almost like a dream. Not that this is what she dreamed about, a family that cared from one another had always been some wish that would never come true. Whisper stopped from frowning, Kipxin was right they didn't have time to find new shelter, she could already feel the snow settling on her pelt and she resisted the urge to shiver knowing the snow was providing a small amount of shelter. The snow was pelting down and blurring her vision so she was no longer able to view Kipxin and had lost entirely Kole's black form. Whisper masked her concern for the others as Kipxin made her final verdict. She didn't allow her feelings to shine through. Azreal could handle himself and Bain was probably safe in a tree hollow. With little vigor she tore into the carcass one last time, the wind buffeting her as she felt herself almost leaning into the rock in the gale. She looked from Kole to Kipxin, they had to make it now. She hoped they had eaten enough. Whisper wondered how they were going to divide up the prey, she let Kipxin worry about that. She could outlast the storm without food if it came to that. Whisper gazed at the diminished form of the deer. Glancing from Kole to Kipxin waiting for them to finish up here so they could get back to the den. A renewed sense of urgency coursing through her. The sights and smells where mostly indistinguishably by now. Whisper's red coat stood out in the snow but not enough to be seen. |

The alpha watched her pack mates finish eating a few morsels of the deer before stepping forward and grabbing the left-hind leg of the deer. She met the eyes of Whisper then settled on Kole's, mentally willing them to grab a part of the deer and help her pull it towards the den site.
She could vaguely see the outline of her two friends, blinking rapidly against the snow that was falling heavily now. Clouds had covered the sky that had been bright with mid-morning sun only a few hours ago. It was far too early to be this dark, but Kipxin didn't mind it. She had a strange affection for the lonely howling of the wind and found comfort in the slowness of the season. The one aspect of the storm she didn't enjoy was the cold and as she tugged the deer, melted snow trickled down her spine.
She shuddered slightly, instantly looking towards Kole. He always made her warm and secretly hoped he would decide to den with her through this storm. She couldn't imagine sleeping through this storm all alone and though she would love to spend time with Whisper, she just had a yearning want to curl up with her Beta and cuddle the storm away.
As all these thoughts bounced around within her mind, she tugged at the deer, hoping to guide Kole and Whisper back to the den-site.

Whisper felt the Kipxin begin to heave at the deer, dragging it forward, and didn't hesitate for a moment before grabbing the spinal cord in her jaw and dragging the deer with the alpha. Whisper didn't see the outline of Kole or Kipxin but could tell the weight of the load was not on her alone. She felt the wind whip around her ears in a wild frenzy and couldn't wait to be in her den. She didn't like the danger of the storm. It made her feel weak, like a fern, ready to be trod upon or torn up by the wind. She loved the snow and the wind, it made hunting easier and even though it was accompanied by the biting chill, she reveled in it. Whisper couldn't tell where she was, but got the general sense of going back from where she came from. Strangely she trusted Kipxin to lead her through it. If not she could always burrow in the snow. The blizzard was roaring in her ears, and snowflakes played on her face as a frigid layer of water started to seep into her coat. It was hard to tell whether dragging the deer in snow made the task easier or not. Whisper knew that Azreal was probably not going to show up and knew that Kipxin would probably den with Kole. She suppressed the lonely feeling creeping up towards her, it was the way things were. She let herself thing that things might not always be this way, but quickly vanquished the thoughts. Right now it seemed like there was only Azreal and she wasn't ready to show him that she had feelings for him until he did first. She frowned but it didn't reach her face. Trees starting appearing out of thin air and Whisper had to go more slowly to avoid bumping into them. The were close. Whisper tried to find Kipxin in the wall of white but could only see a hazy shadow. She wondered where Kole was. Whisper took a moment to ponder if she would be able to stand being in a den alone for a long period of time. She supposed she had spent most of her life like that and so could wait out any storm. It would be nice to have someone to share the time with though. Whisper trudged on through the snow, the continuous walls of white making it seem like she was going nowhere and heading into oblivion. He held his eyes on Kip while she tore at the deer showing her power and dominance. The steam rose from the internals of the mutilated animal making hunger thrive in his stomach. Kole glanced back towards Kipxin as she spoke. He was glad that she agreed with him, his busy mind easing slightly. He looked down at his paws for a few seconds focusing on her words. It seemed they both had the same view of the situation and that made him smile even in the grim position they were in. He approached the prey slowly, brushing his tail against Kip's flank as he neared. Kole hurriedly tore into the steaming flesh only pausing to lick the blood dripping from his lips. Soon he had ate his fill, not wanting to over eat. They needed to ration what they had, and the thought of pulling the deer all the way back to the den on a full stomach gave him a bad feeling.
Kole grabbed hold of one of the deers front legs in a way that he could face forward and still have the power to pull it along. The snow shot down harshly into his ears and eyes, the cold stinging his senses. His thick fur provided decent cover, yet the snow blanketed upon him turning his coat from dark to light. Trees started closing in and he attempted to make eye contact with the alpha. The wind forced the snow between them powerfully. He could barely make out Whisper's outline. Kole couldn't see much, but he could sense the familiarity of the forest. They were getting close.
The thick snow enveloped his stinging paws with every step he took. He only just started noticing the depth of freezing cold white, slipping up almost to his knee joints now. His footing grew scarce, and he tripped a couple times succeeding in covering his face with the powdery snow. His eyelids started freezing together as the temperature dropped with the sun.

Kipxin felt the weight of the deer slowly let up, and as she felt both Kole and Whisper's presence by her side. The three of them were making excellent progress dragging the deer to their den site, and after a few minutes they were crossing den territory.
The only way she could tell where she was was the scents. She could recognize her own as well as Kole's and Whisper's from being there just hours ago as the snow was just beginning to fall. The snow was up to her knees now, and she was stumbling every once and awhile as she fell into holes or tripped on the invariable terrain beneath the snow.
She could feel Kole stumbling as well, and it comforted her in a strange way to know that even a wolf as big and strong as Kole was tripping up here and there - it soothed her pride.
The cold had meandered its way between all layers of her fur and was now stinging harshly against her skin. She was saturated - a mix between sweat and ice and exhaustion consumed the alpha and she day dreamed about curling up for a long winter's nap.
She was satisfied with herself that they had successfully dragged a meal all the way to the den site. She still had a few pieces of meat and carcass remaining from previous meals throughout the week and she wasn't worried too much about rationing. She was sure that the others would have hunted and prepared for the storm as well.
She just hoped everyone was safe and that they would have enough to last out this storm - however long that would be.

Whisper felt Kipxin stop, and assumed the den site was immanent. She could only see a seemingly thin gauze of white that stretched on forever, the scents of other wolves faint, a distant place rather than right beside her. Whisper didn't drop the leg that she had grabbed, partly afraid of losing it ad mist the snow. She knew where her den was, and would for once feel safe in an enclosed space, a fire wouldn't reach it and no animal would survive the trip to the den except for maybe rodents which would be welcome, as a meal. Whisper felt the snow clinging to her eyelids and face, resisting the urge to shake them loose she wondered if her voice could even be heard above the gale of the wind. She had just eaten and the storm would last a week maximum, she could go two weeks without food easily but after that famine would begin to take over. The world was swirling and shifting around her, making her feel small and insecure. Whisper was defiantly sure that she wanted someone to share the upcoming storm with, she knew that Kipxin would probably share it with Kole and even if nothing happened she wanted to share it with Azreal, knowing he wouldn't arrive now in this weather she hoped that he was safe. Whisper's legs began to sink slowly into snow as she stood there, wondering what the alpha was going to do now. She felt the urgency to get into the den, but didn't want to hasten a decision. Whisper masked her emotions and lay down into the snow, making it fold around her like a blanket. The water droplets clung to her cooling body and frosty breath came out of her mouth in great huffs. She allowed her mind to drift, shying away from memories and trying to clear all the dangerous thoughts that slipped elusively into her mind. wolves mentioned: Kole, Kipxin, Azreal wolves addressed: none
